Abstract This paper discusses the most important problems facing the banking finance for Egyptian Small and Micro Industries (SMIs) which are: Firstly, the demand side problems (SMIs) such as: (1) Most of the Egyptian SMIs are working in the informal economy. (2) Owners of the SMIs (especially youth and young entrepreneurs) do not have the necessary or the sufficient experience required for their business. (3) 2 The majority of the Egyptian SMIs are not qualified for getting banking finance. Secondly the supply side problems (Banks) such as: (1) The Egyptian banking system does not have efficient inistitutions or infrastructure. (2) High interest rates. (3) Lending the Egyptian SMIs involves higher costs and risks. Thirdly the Egyptian business environment’s problems such as: (1) Uncertainty about the Egyptian government's policies due to the absence of a specific economic vision. (2) Unavailable information about banking finance opportunities (3) The Egyptian financial sector suffers from ineffecicient legislative and institutional framework. This study finds some recommendations and policy implications such as: (1) Egyptian government has to play a vital and efficient role in: (1.1) Facilitating the banking finance for the Egyptian SMIs, (1.2) Supplying warranty to their loans, and (1.3) Providing suitable business environment for SMIs’ growth. (2) Encouraging the informal sector to be transformed and included into the formal sector. (3) Minimising the costs of SMIs’ transactions. (4) Improving the bankers’ awareness about the economic feasibility and importance of the banking finance for the SMIs. (5) Simplifying the market entry & exit rules and procedures. (6) Enhancing the entrepreneurship culture in Egypt.
